Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Initial steps have been planned in order for possible local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) establishment in Leavenworth County. The Office of Emergency Management announced today that two courses are being made available from the Kansas Department Emergency Management (KDEM) in Leavenworth to develop Program Managers and Trainers. This appears to be a precursor to standing up a CERT here in Leavenworth County.
Of particular interest to use is whether the communications portion of the CERT program will employ Amateur Radio. If that is the case, we can be both asset and beneficiary of a possible boon in those seeking to become licensed Radio Amateurs. Per Rachael Schuette, Emergency Management’s Planner/Exerciser, CERT will eventually be offered to all county volunteers. County volunteers consist mostly of licensed Radio Amateurs.
If interested in becoming a CERT Trainer or Program Manager, sign up using KS Train. As of this posting, there are no classes scheduled so you can’t sign up online. However, you can click on Save for Later for each offering and you’ll be able to quickly find the courses when the Leavenworth classes are made available. When searching, the exact titles are:
- KDEM Trng: Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program Manager Course (2024)
- KDEM Trng: Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Train the Trainer Course (2024)
