New Credentialing Requirements
All KS-LV-ARES members are encouraged to attain an Amateur Radio Operator resource typing per standards set in the updated Amateur Radio Operator Credentialing Requirements and Resource Typing document revised on 01/17/2025.
By attaining at least a Level IV certification, every operator will be typed for use during any emergency events in the Kansas City region and other ICS-based events that rely on a vetted credential for deployment.
NOTE: The MECC Credential Committee merely validates your submission for the requested level. Only Emergency Management and other EmComm organizations can actually issue credentials. When applying to MECC for Credentialing, include KS-LV-ARES and Leavenworth County Emergency Management in the requested distribution of the validation. Please include NJØP and KZØIMO as cc: addressees in your email form submission so that we can track your progress. Thanks.
Instructions are on the form. The application is online. There is an email address provided for submitting proof of course completions and experience gained.
The KS-LV-ARES Task Book is an excellent way to track progress and see what tasks are needed for level completion.
Level IV – Basic operator. With minimal instruction is capable of operating a voice radio.
Level III – Advanced operator. Basic operator with emergency communications experience.
Level II – Supervisor. Capable of coordinating Level III and IV operators. Experience with multiple modes and multiple events.
Level I – Leader. Proven capability to lead an Emergency Communications group through incidences, events, training, and exercises.
For KS-LV-ARES, the desired hierarchical distribution would be as follows:

Level II – 5
Level III – 15
Level IV – 25
